Doctor of Philosophy in Economic and Social Development Policy 
(International Program)

 

The aim of the Doctor of Philosophy in Economic and Social Development Policy (International Program) is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates. These skills include the capability to formulate a significant problem, to develop mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological skills, and to relate the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in the relevant discipline area. The doctoral thesis provides evidence of a contribution to knowledge with a level of originality consistent with three years of full time study and research, in a scholarly manner

 

Objectives

The Doctor of Philosophy in Economic and Social Development Policy (International Program) seeks to achieve the successful preparation of postgraduate scholars as follows:

1. Provide postgraduate opportunities in policy analysis in a variety of policy areas, with appropriate experience and qualification in economic and social development.

2. Provide postgraduate opportunities in presenting an academic program of excellence in research for candidates that represents original work of publishable quality.

3. Develop candidates with superior levels of confidence in administrative and managerial skills for organizations that provide services in education, health, family / social welfare, public expenditure, market regulatory areas, and social security.

4. Foster within candidates, requisite standards of professional ethics and critical thinking abilities to allow them to work in public policy areas, and for contributing to the better formulation of economic and social development policy.

  • Seminar in Contemporary Economic and Social Policy in the Greater Mekong Sub-region Countries
  • Social Policy, Social Planning and Evaluation

  • Ethnic Studies and Intercultural Communication
  • Education and Public Policy

 

Specialized Elective Courses

Candidates in plan 2.1 select any of the following courses not less than 6 credits

(1) Economic Development

  • Sufficiency Economy and Human Development
  • Economics of the Public Sector
  • Economics of Natural Resources and Environmental policy
  • Policy Issues in Developing Countries’ Economies
  • Health Economics

 

(2) Social Development

  • Evolving Families and Challenges to Family Policy
  • Health Policy and Health Care Services
  • Policy Implications and Global Perspectives on Violence against Women
  • Child Policy and Children at the Difficult Situations
  • Long –Term Care and Lifestyle Alternatives for the Older Adult
